The following rankings are based on my personal opinion when the troop formation is specialized in siege machines.
Example of troop formation – more than 90% siege machines / less than 10% other troops / all troops are layered
Assumptions
- General – All
- Specialty – Maximize all 4. (Reference: Specialty Guide)
- Star level – 10 (Awakened)
- Covenant – Maximize all
Evaluation Criteria
The basic importance of siege machines, by their very nature, is their attack strength and march size. However, the main use of specialized siege machine units is siege bombing (clearing enemy siege machines with our large number of siege machines) at keep levels of approximately 35 and above. This is true both when attacking and reinforcing. Since this is a battle of the same type, HP and defense are also important in this case.
Therefore, the general with the highest values for attack, defense, HP, march size, and rally capacity, or these 5 values, is ranked higher.
The following 3 types are listed below, but the rankings are sorted by evaluation 2.
- Evaluation 1 – Considers only Buffs (Focus on Attack)
- Add up the percentages of the 3 types of buffs: attack, march size, and rally capacity.
- Evaluation 2 – Considers only Buffs (Focus on Attack & Durability)
- Score of Evaluation 1 + percentages of defense and HP. (Total 5 types).
- Evaluation 3 – Considers Buffs & Debuffs
- If a general has a debuff, its percentage is added to the score of Evaluation 2.
- If debuffs for all types of troops, the debuff value x4.
2 types of rankings
Some buffs that each general has are not valid if they are used as reinforcements to an ally’s castle or if they are made defenders of their own castle. (For more information: Buff / Debuff – Basic Guide)
In other words, some generals have “march/rally” and “Reinforcements (to an ally’s castle)/Defenders” have very different performances.
For this reason, the ranking is divided between these 2 types.
Buffs by Skillbook
Basically, it is assumed that by using an assistant, the following 6 types are attached.
Attack, Defense, HP, Range, March size, March Speed (Lv4 for each).
In other words, it is basically assumed that there will be no difference depending on the skill book.
However, if a general has a skill book that cannot be added, it is excluded from the buff value.
A) for March & Rally
Overall Rating
For marching/rallying, I recommend Theobald I, Gunther.
Then, Maurice de Saxe, Theodosius I, John Hunyadi, Pallas, Mu Guiying, Edward Teach, Raimondo.
Melisande & Kleos are quite good, but I would recommend making them assistants rather than main generals. They are difficult to obtain and very difficult to make red stars.
Maurice de Saxe or Mu Guiying or Edward Teach or Raimondo if you place a high value on using them as a reinforcement for your allied castle or as a wall defender.
In this case, Theodosius I, Gunther, John Hunyadi, Pallas are greatly weakened.

Almost as good as Gunther.
March size is larger than Gunther, but there is no debuff.
The good news is that you can get a general with the similar performance as Gunther without the skin.
When reinforcing: Bad.
Since he has many “marching buffs” instead of “basic buffs”, he is greatly weakened when used as a reinforcement to an ally’s castle or as a wall defender. (Reference: Buff / Debuff – Basic Guide)
See Section B for performance figures.

It is above Maurice de Saxe in total buff value, but almost the same. Personally, I recommend Maurice de Saxe.
Compared to Melisande, it is superior in score 2, but inferior in score 3.
Compared to John Hunyadi, it is superior in score 2, but is almost equal in score 3.

Since most of the buffs are basic buffs, he is not weakened nearly as much when he is a reinforcement to an ally’s castle or when he is a wall defender. This is a big advantage.
However, now that Septimius Severus has been added, it is slightly inferior.
Note – If a dragon cannot be assigned, the siege machine attack will be -25% from the above. Many people will probably assign Celtic Demon to a ranged general and Fafnir to a mounted general, so take that into consideration.

B) for Reinforce (to ally’s castle) & Wall Defender
When a reinforcement to alliance member’s city, or a wall defender, the “marching buff” (“when General is leading the army to attack” buff) is disabled.
(See this article for details: Buff / Debuff – Basic Guide)
NOTE: When a reinforcement to “Building”, the “marching buff” is enabled. See section A.
Overall Rating
Recommendations for Reinforce to alliance member’s city or Wall Defender ( dual role with attacker) is Maurice de Saxe.
Then, Edward Teach, Mu Guiying, Raimondo.
Melisande is quite good, but I would recommend making her assistants rather than main generals. She is difficult to obtain and very difficult to make red stars.

Special Note – Weaknesses of Theobald I, Theodosius I, Gunther, John Hunyadi, Pallas, Kleos, John Churchill, Zucca, Petronas, Phillip
They perform significantly worse when they are not “attacking (marching)”, i.e., when they are reinforcements (alliance member’s city) or defense generals on wall.
If you are using them as your main general, some players may need to train a separate general for reinforcements.
Note – The following cases are no problem. Attack buffs (march buffs) are applied.
– When participating in a rally / starting a rally by yourself
– When sending reinforcements / defending / attacking an occupied building on the map (Portal, Temple, etc.)

Hi! Can you add Melisandre with skin to the ranking?
Added.
Sorry, this may be an elementary question, Why are there two types of generals, with skins and without skins?
For example, if I want the skin of Pallas, do I have to summon her with the historic general summonning to get the skin?
Skins increase the buffs for that general.
The Pallas skin was available in a different event than the Historic General Summoning. That event has already ended, so we will have to wait for the next one. As of today (8/22/2023) it is not obtainable.
I see.
Thank you for your answer. m(_ _)m
I will wait patiently for the event.
I won it with the historic general token, but I was in a hurry because there was no skin ( > < ). 😉
Hello. You mentioned that Petronas has a lot of marching buffs, which greatly weakens him if we send him as a reinforcement to our side, but if we use Petronas as an aide to our main Edward Teach, will that compensate for the weakness?
Teach is not weakened even during reinforcements, so it can compensate somewhat for Petronas’ weakness.
How about Zucca? A new siege general who looks strong
It’s pretty good and I would recommend it if you haven’t already raised your siege general.
However, if you have already raised quite a few Petronas, Septimius, Philip, and Surena, there is no need to switch.
لا أعلم ماهذا لكن لم أجد جودفيري أو حتى إيدون على الرغم من أنهم من أفضل الجنرالات حاليا في هذا

They are ranged generals and this page is about siege generals.
The Ranged Generals are below.

Would you create a best assistant general section with full specialties vs no specialties? Skill books are not as important since that is a compatibility issue…
Just a heads up… Evony forcibly removed the attack skill book from every Surena on every server… I wouldn’t consider him number one anymore…
With the official removal of the attack book by evony, can you update the list
Not sure what others are finding, but I have added Siege Attack, L4, to Surena.
Thanks for the info. You are right. I have obtained evidence that we can add Lv4.
Thank you, I’ll check with customer support then. I get a message that the general already has the skill at a higher level so I can’t add Siege attack to him.
Why can’t I add…
Sometimes you can’t add the lower level books if their innate skill is higher, not sure if that’s the case.
I tried to attach level 1 before attaching level 4, but it seems impossible :-<
impossible…..
Customer support is also telling me that siege attack skill cannot be added to Surena.
It was originally possible to attach the skill book for attack, but now it appears that it is no longer possible to do so. I will wait and see for a while, as it is unclear whether the developer will leave it as is or revert back to being able to attach it in the future.
Hello, just wanted to let you know that Surena cannot take a Siege Attack skillbook, so his siege attack is 95% before red stars, while Philip II can and his would be 110% with the skillbook and before red stars. Additionally, Surena only adds an additional 25% attack from all 5 red stars, while Philip II adds 35% without needing a dragon. Would you agree that this makes Philip II the better choice, or have I missed something?
Thanks for the info! However, I have obtained evidence that we can add Lv4.
Also, I have changed the evaluation criteria, please check the Assumptions section.
I have made adjustments throughout the article.
I have a L4 Siege Attack skill book on mine.
You don’t take into account that all of Philip II’s bonuses work if he is in command of an army. if it is added to the rally then it is not so good anymore.
You can’t add Seige Attack skill to Surena.
Thanks for the info! However, I have obtained evidence that we can add Lv4.
Thank you for all your help.
I previously asked a question in the “Generals Cultivation Guide” and your recommendation was to train a Ranged General as an attacker and defender.
I have two questions.
First, I am currently training Winfield Scott.
(Skills: Ranged Attack, March Size, Ranged Range, each giving Lv.4).
I have given him skills from the perspective of specializing in ranged troops, but should I consider replacing Ranged Attack with Siege Machines Range, etc. if he is also a defender?
Second, I have two players in my alliance who do not currently have a ranged general, but have a siege general.
They have Ulysses and Surena respectively.
Is there an option to use the siege general as an attacker and defender as a replacement for the ranged general?
If so, I would appreciate it if you could give me the recommended skills.
(Supplement)
I understand that a balance of 7~8 ranged / 2~3 siege and layers would be effective.
I assume that the priority of the skills is as follows
High: March size, Siege range, Ranged range
Medium: Siege attack, Ranged attack
Low: HP and defense
Thank you in advance.
Hi – great wiki that I reference often. Question though: I notice in several places throughout this Wiki, you discuss a mixed Range/Siege march (perhaps 80/20 or 70/30), but I wasn’t able to find anything regarding the reverse… a Siege/Ranged march (70/30), or maybe some other sort of mix like Siege/Ground. Is this something that is not advised? I have Napoleon and he has a 32% all troop buff (with all specialties activated), and 42% for Ranged. Would a mixed march be ill-advised for a Siege general? Do game mechanics make this strategy not successful?
If this can be a successful strategy, would adding the skills of Siege Range Bonus, Siege attack and Range Bonus (or ground speed) be advised? Thanks in advance.
It depends on the composition of the enemy. However, in reality, they are often not very useful.
Therefore, I do not recommend it.
In the case of siege/ground (70/30), it is strong against enemies specializing in ranged troops, but there is no point in increasing ground. Specializing in siege or ground is sufficient.
In the case of siege/ranged (70/30), it is effective when the enemy is ranged/mounted (70/30), but there are few such enemies.
In addition, ranged/siege (70/30) is effective against enemies with more mounted and ranged and fewer ground and siege, in other words, it is a formation that is easily useful until the middle of the game, so it is listed in a separate article.
Thank you, that makes sense. I will plan accordingly.
Customer service told me they have to delete my developed Surena but they need my permission. What are you hearing? I already have siege attack, siege range, and march size. If I leave it alone. Will my siege attack skill book stay?
Thank you for all your valuable information. Regarding Philip II, it is possible to add an attack.
I have added siege attack, siege range, and march size. Thank you very much.
Thanks for the info!
Based on the data above, Ulysses is ahead of Matthias in attack and march size. Is he ranked behind him because he needs a dragon?
Yes. That is correct.
Because for many people, they cannot afford to put a dragon on a siege general.
If you can put a dragon on it, Ulysses is better.
(Nidhogg on the cavalry general, Fafnir on Ulysses)

Thank you for all your help. About the siege machine, when it breaks, it’s out of control, isn’t it? If I have to spend gems to fix it, should I dismiss it? Will the number of soldiers be reduced as well? Please let me know.
What do you think of Joseph Johnston as a siege reinforcement general compared to Grant or Ramsses? I believe the “in city” buffs apply when you are reinforcing another player, so that might prevent the need for a specific reinforcing siege general?
The in-city buffs themselves work when reinforcing another player’s castle, but Joseph’s skill does not work when reinforcing, because it has the proviso that he is “the Main City Defense General”.

Can you please comment on Isabella 3rd speciality. When does it apply
I have several of these siege generals in my items. At what keep level does one need to start developing a siege general and building lots of siege troops? Right now I have built just enough to level my generals and for gathering load.
I already have a Mattias but I intend to unlock only three specialties. Is Ulysses Grant still preferable under these circumstances?
Napoleon’s skills must have changed. His base is no longer +10 siege attack.
He adds +10 attack to all troops, +20 to siege attack, and can add a +25 skill book.
His specialties add another +20 siege attack and +22 to all troops attack.
No, it hasn’t changed; what you are looking at is the ranking of reinforcements.
Hallo, wie sieht es mit dem General Dimitri aus? er ist in general der sein buff für verstärkung hat
> Hello, what about the general Dimitri? he is in general who has his buff for reinforcement
Dmitry is not a specialist in siege machines, but in ranged troops.
He is evaluated in the following article.
Best of Ranged PvP General
I couldn’t get Khalid to add the siege machine attack skill😢.
For Khalid, the Siege Machine Attack skillbook can only be used at Lv4, not at Lv1-3. ( I have tested ) 😭
Thank you for such a detailed and easy to read article😄.
It’s very helpful to know about general and equipment creation!
I would be very happy if you could write about layered composition when you have free time.
Thank you.😊
Just for curiosity, is siege even worth building??
I ask because I have been told that range is best against other players, and mounted are best against bosses, but what are siege best for??
Thanks in advance!!
I think it is worth building.
I think the first area of strength is defensive battles.
It is not uncommon for big high-level players to build more siege weapons for defense than any other type of troops.
Siege machines tend to be strong against ranged troops and weak against mounted and ground troops.
(See this article for more info: Troop Type Guide: Usage & Characteristics (Mounted, Ground, Ranged, Siege))
If a player is an intermediate player or above, siege machines can be an effective counter since many players attack with ranged troops.
However, since the attack value is low, you will need to have a large number of units.
Buffs and debuffs are also important. Of course, if these are weak, you will lose.
It can also be used for attacking, but due to the limitation of the March size, it does not have enough firepower, and it is not uncommon for it to be ineffective when the enemy is a high-level big player.
However, if the enemy has a lot of low level troops, I have the impression that even a small number of siege machines can be useful.
I think the answer to P’s question below is also helpful, so please have a look at that too.
Hi, thank you for all the information, i learn a lot thanks to you.
I have a question, why people don’t use seige machine, but players usually prefer use archers or ground in PvP? I see many times that people prefer to use ground for kill ranged troops, instead of seige.
And i listen rumor that seige are stronger in defense than the offense, is it true?
The reason why many people use ranged troops is because many beginners in PvP use mounted troops.
Also, I think it is the most versatile troops in PvP because it can compete with other types of troops, though only if you increase the buffs enough. 🤔
People who use ground troops are advanced players, and it’s to take down range troops players like the ones mentioned above.
Siege machines are also strong against ranged troops, but tend to be weak against mounted and ground troops.
Ground troops can fight decently against three types of troops: ranged troops, ground troops, and siege machines, but siege machines can only fight two types: ranged troops and siege machines.
In other words, in terms of versatility, ground troops are better than siege machines.
I think this is one of the reasons why people prefer ground troops to siege machines. 🤔
Also, siege machines have a low attack value, so you need to have a large number of them to be able to effectively damage the enemy.
If you don’t have enough of them, the enemy will get close to you before you can destroy them, and you will be beaten.
The biggest obstacle in attack is the limitation of march size.
This is not the case in defense.
Therefore, rather than saying that
“siege machines are stronger in defense than in offense”,
it is more accurate to say that
“siege machines are better at making up for their weaknesses in defense than in offense”.
In other words.
In the case of attack, because of the upper limit of damage by March size, siege machines cannot play an active role depending on the enemy.
In the case of defense, since there is no upper limit of damage by march size, siege machines can be relatively active. (In fact, it can be the strongest type of troops that can deal heavy damage unilaterally.
I think we can say that. 🤔
(Note: The above is based on the assumption that you and the enemy have the same level of troops and buffs. If the enemy’s level is low, you can defeat many enemies even if your numbers are low.)

What should I think about the extended range skill for siege machines?
Also, if I choose to extend the range, which of the other two skills should I choose?
Please see the following article for an explanation.
Best Skills Guide – what skills should you add?
So, I have one question… isn’t Matthias better than Grant if you don’t have a Pasture dragon available?
Yes. In that case, Marchese I is better.
I’ve been waiting for your article on siege machines! Thank you very much!
Compared to attacking with ranged troops, the firepower is reduced, but I believe the range is wider = more attacks. However, in order to take advantage of the higher number of attacks, is it better to add a little bit of each level of mounted and ranged troops as well as ground troops to form a unit that can stop the opponent for as long as possible?
Thank you for everything.😊
We all in the alliance are watching this!
I don’t see many discussions on siege weapon generals, so this was very helpful!
I’m looking forward to your article on Battle of Chalons.🥰🥰
General Simeon, can you set up a Siege General?
If you are organizing a unit that specializes in siege machines, the above general is a better choice.
If you have an organization of about 80% archers + 20% siege machines, he is excellent.
See below for details.
